  • Be a financial member of the club.
  • Complete the "Range Access Fields" part of the membership form. This can be done during the registration, or in your member profile later.
  • Complete Kaitoke Range Safety course (there is a one-off $10 fee) and upload the certificate to your member profile. (you only need to do this once, if you have done it before, see https://hvnzda.org.nz/How-to-retrieve-your-safer-shooter-certificate/ on how to retrieve your certificate).
  • Once you have completed the Kaitoke Online Range Safety Course, email the club hvnzda.range@gmail.com to book in for the next available (RUI) Range Use Induction day.
  • Range Use Induction (RUI) briefings are held at the Kaitoke range complex. Inductions are held on the last Sunday of every month between 3pm and 5.30pm. New members must attend induction briefing before a FOB can be issued.

Please note, existing members who have been previously issued a range access FOB can have any problems with their FOBs addressed at the monthly club night. The 3rd Wednesday of the month March to November, at the Upper Hutt Cossie Club, starting at 7:00PM. Or can come along to the monthly Range Use Induction (RUI). New members range access FOB will only be issued at the completion of a Range Use Induction (RUI) session at the Kaitoke Range Complex.

We no longer issue range FOBS via mail.

Access FOBs and locks are updated on ANZAC Day each year (if you renew your membership before ANZAC Day each year, your range card will continue to work, otherwise, it will be deactivated).

How to use range access FOBs

It's pretty easy - touching your access FOB to the bottom of the lock will unlock it. Then you twist the bottom part of the lock to release it. Don't forget to close and lock the gate once you have gone through it.

Returning the FOBs

If you have not renewed your membership, please return your FOB to the club. You can drop it off on a club night or post it to our PO box:

NZDA Hutt Valley Branch INC.
PO BOX 40226
Upper Hutt 5140

Loaning of access FOBs

The loaning of access FOBs to non-members is not permitted as the range is a private facility and requires users to be financial club members, comply with club rules, be fully conversant with the current Range Standing Orders and complete the Kaitoke Range Safety Course. Those caught loaning may have their FOBs deactivated, membership revoked or ultimately reported to the police.
